Periodontitis (popularly known as "periodontosis") is usually manifested by bleeding gums when brushing your teeth. Extreme sensitivity of your teeth to cold or hot foods can also indicate periodontitis. The result of periodontitis is inflammation and shrinkage of the periodontal ligament. Both the gums and the jawbone are affected. We will show you how to treat gingivitis.

Periodontitis is the second most common oral disease after tooth decay. Approximately 80% of all people have this disease. It is the main cause of teeth falling out. It is now scientifically proven that cardiovascular diseases (atherosclerosis), heart attacks, cerebral infarctions and premature births are associated with periodontitis.
Starting with inflammation of the gums, the disease moves on and penetrates into the depths of the tooth bed where the teeth are stored. The retraction of the gums can no longer be stopped and the bone is receeding more and more. The teeth become loose and painful. Periodontitis usually proceeds without pain and lasts for years. The disease is mainly the result of poor oral hygiene and genetic predisposition.
Periodontitis can be recognized early by the following features:
Before the actual treatment, we thoroughly examine your teeth and gums.
For the further treatment of periodontitis, the professional cleaning of the teeth is of great importance. The removal of plaque and tartar, especially in the gingival pockets, enables a smooth tooth surface without the accumulation of bacteria - this can reduce the depth of the gingival pockets when they heal.
The main treatment of periodontitis usually takes place after about 4 weeks, so that the effects of professional tooth cleaning can first show their effects. Depending on the severity of the periodontitis, individual therapeutic measures are now applied, which we will of course discuss in detail with you beforehand.
Even after the successful treatment of periodontal disease, you should help prevent it from sprouting again. We therefore recommend regular check-ups, professional teeth cleaning and treatment of the gums.
Periodontitis is a bacterial infection that causes inflammation of the teeth supporting structure. Initially, the disease manifests itself through bleeding gums and sensitivity to cold and heat. Patients also complain of bad breath caused by inflamed gum pockets and spreading bacteria. If left untreated, gums and even gum bones recede. The result is unstable teeth and tooth loss.
Periodontitis is considered an infectious disease and is therefore contagious. Kissing, unclean cutlery or sharing a toothbrush are considered risk factors. In the case of severe infections, partners and family should therefore be treated as well.
However, the causative germs can be found in almost every person. The problem only becomes serious when the bacteria multiply. Therefore, there are some preventive measures.
Appropriate oral hygiene is crucial for gum health. But smoking is also a risk factor for periodontitis. A weakened immune system, stress and an unbalanced diet also increase susceptibility. There are also genetic factors and diseases such as diabetes that promote the development of periodontal disease.
