Why are X-rays important at the dentist?

X-rays are an indispensable part of dental diagnostics. They allow the dentist to detect changes and conditions that are not visible to the naked eye. From the early detection of caries and the assessment of gum health to the planning of complex treatments – X-rays provide valuable information that is essential for targeted treatment.

X-rays as part of prophylaxis

In our dental practice, we recommend X-rays not only for existing problems but also as a preventative measure. We understand that many dental issues, such as early-stage cavities or hidden root canal infections, don't cause immediate pain and therefore often go unnoticed. Regular X-ray examinations allow us to identify such problems early on. This enables us to act preventively and avoid more extensive treatments in the future. Furthermore, X-rays help us to precisely plan treatments and preventative measures.

Frequently asked questions about X-rays

The radiation exposure during X-rays in our dental practice is minimal. We rely on proven techniques and protective measures to minimize the dose without compromising diagnostic quality.

The frequency of X-rays depends on the individual needs of the patient. As a rule, we recommend taking X-rays every one to two years for routine check-ups.

An X-ray provides important information for an accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. It shows teeth, root structures, jawbone, and the location of nerve pathways, and helps to identify diseases such as caries or periodontitis.

No, X-rays are completely painless. You simply need to hold still for a short moment.

Currently, there are no alternatives that can offer the comprehensive diagnostics provided by X-rays. Other imaging techniques, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT), are only used in dentistry in specific cases, as they do not offer the same level of detail for dental structures or can involve higher radiation exposure.

We use protective measures to keep radiation exposure as low as possible. This includes the use of lead aprons and minimizing radiation to the necessary minimum.

Generally, no special preparations are necessary. We recommend removing jewelry and metallic accessories to avoid affecting image quality. Please inform us if you are pregnant.

Health protection during X-rays

The health of our patients is our highest priority. Our proven X-ray equipment enables reliable diagnostics with controlled radiation exposure. Regular maintenance and strict adherence to radiation protection regulations guarantee safe use in our practice.
