The substances that make up the tooth are irretrievably destroyed. A hole is created, which gets bigger and bigger due to the caries bacteria. This can only be stopped if the bacteria and the already attacked tooth components are removed. The hole can then be filled, with the most popular fillings being tooth-colored fillings. This tooth filling is adapted to the natural tooth color and is therefore practically invisible in the mouth. So you can rest assured that nothing about your smile will change as a result of the treatment.

How often should a tooth filling be renewed?

After a filling, almost every third tooth has to be replaced after about 4 years. There can be various reasons for the decreasing durability of the tooth filling. Eating particularly hard foods or normal wear and tear are just two of them. Depending on which filling material (amalgam, composite, plastic or ceramic) you choose, the durability of the tooth filling can vary.

Which costs of the tooth filling does the health insurance cover?

Amalgam fillings are standard for those with public health insurance in the lateral tooth area. In the anterior region, the health insurance usually pays for fillings made of composite or cement. With all other filling variants, you only receive a subsidy from your public health insurance and have to take over the rest of the treatment yourself.

Ceramic fillings inlays for longer durability

Inlays are precisely fitting workpieces that are inserted into the tooth to treat the consequences of caries and to reconstruct the resulting tooth defects - also in the visible area. They are made from an impression in the dental laboratory and perfectly adapted to your individual teeth. There are various manufacturing processes, all of which are very time-consuming and are accordingly in the higher price segment.

Ceramic fillings have a high strength and are aesthetically optimal and have also proven themselves very well in the long term. They must be used according to the so-called adhesive fastening method with plastic glue. This not only creates a good connection, but also stabilizes the tooth - ceramic fillings are also ideal for larger defects.

Inlay fillings at your dentist in Munich

Cast fillings, ceramic fillings and laboratory-made plastic fillings are inlay fillings. At least two sessions are required to produce inlay fillings so that we can adapt the fillings perfectly to your natural teeth and your requirements (time for laboratory production).

Cast fillings are metal fillings. The materials used are modeled and cast in the dental laboratory based on an impression. In this way, the tooth shapes can be reproduced most faithfully. Cast fillings can be kept practically indefinitely with good care and are made from high-quality gold alloys. Their elaborate production and increased material and laboratory costs place them in a higher price segment.

Cement fillings with a shelf life of approx. three years. Modern glass ionomer cements have a tooth-like color. However, they are subject to heavy wear and tear and are therefore only used as “transitional fillings” and are not made for permanent use.

Plastic fillings (Composites) are hardened by light polymerization. These fillings are to be regarded as full-fledged amalgam alternatives, especially in the case of small defects, also in the posterior region. However, their production is very time-consuming and associated with higher costs due to the demanding processing method.

I have been a patient of Dr. Hodbod and very satisfied. I have needed a splint for many years and have had Dr. Hodbod got the right splint made for me. We recommend. Tooth fillings and advice are also to my complete satisfaction. dr I went to Hodbod after getting a quote for a filling from another dentist. But that seemed very expensive to me. dr Hodbod looked at my case and diagnosed that no filling was needed at all. He didn't have to do that and it speaks for his seriousness that he doesn't want to "talk" a treatment into you at any price.
